Which carton sealing tape do you actually need?

Start from the carton, not the tape. For a standard corrugated box of ordinary weight, BOPP packaging tape in the light or medium-duty grade is the default, it is listed in the catalogue for carton box sealing and stationery use, and it comes in the widest range of colours and printing options. When the pack has to read as paper, or the seal has to show if someone opened it, move to kraft paper tape, which is biodegradable and recyclable and forms a permanent bond that has to be ripped open. When the carton is heavy enough that the tape is doing structural work, holding a load together rather than just closing a flap, the answer is filament tape, which is reinforced with woven glass fibres and designed for high breaking strength. What grade and roll length should you order?

BOPP packaging tape is made in three grades, light, medium and heavy-duty packaging, so the first thing our team will ask is the carton size, the packed weight and how the boxes are handled downstream. The second question is how the tape is applied. If you run an automatic dispensing machine, order the 650 m or 1000 m lengths, which are made for those machines and mean fewer roll changes per shift; if sealing is done by hand, tell us the roll size your dispenser takes today. Every reel we despatch carries its full advertised length, so a 1000 m roll is 1000 m of sealing and a shift plan built on roll length actually holds. When does a carton need filament tape instead of packing tape?

Filament tape is a self-adhesive tape specially designed for applications requiring a high breaking strength. It has a film backing and rubber adhesive, and woven glass fibres reinforce the backing, which is what makes it strong enough for heavy packaging where it can replace metal and polypropylene strapping. The catalogue lists it for packing heavy-weight cartons, palletising, strapping, sealing of metal coils and pipe bundling. Can the sealing tape carry your branding or a handling message?

Yes, the sealing joint runs the length of the carton, so it is usable print area. Company logos and messages can be printed on BOPP tape in up to 5 colours, with options for reverse printing and half-tone effects. Standard message tapes include "Handle with Care", "For Export", "OK TESTED" and "Fine Quality PVC Pipes", and branding tapes are made for customised branding needs.
